Thread: MAAS Metal Polish

I am looking into getting the MAAS Metal Polish just in case, for some reason, which I don't imagine it happening, some rust appears on my straight razor. I will use oil on the razor and I plan on taking really good care of it, but I would just like to have a plan in case some rust does appear. Does MAAS Metal Polish work well on rusty straight razors?

MAAS is a razors best friend It will get out most surface rust with little or no detectable harm done. I don't have but one "new" razor, most are ebite fixers, and MAAS has been my primary cleaner/buffer compound.

Yes, I'm disgruntled after multiple Walmarts, Lowes, and Home Depots. I finally found it at the first Ace I checked.

If this is a razor you'll be using frequently, then I doubt you'd have to worry about rust much. I'd think you'd catch and clean any stains before it got to that point. Assuming you're not going to be soaking it in salt water. I use Flitz, but Maas from what I understand is about the same thing. I know Flitz cleans up any stains easily on a new blade.

2x after not finding it anywhere locally I went to Amazon and got the 500g can. Then when I decided to check local Ace. Lo and behold not that it matters the size they had was 4oz tube.

I wish Ace was closer to where I live. The one I went two is a good thirty plus miles away. However, it happens to be on the way to The Golden Armadillo (where I was heading anyway). Back when I lived in SD it was easy to find an Ace close by.

MAAS has been a valuable asset when it comes to cleaning razors. It is multi-use and it's done a good job on everything I've tried it on. I don't know where you're from but here in Knoxville it is only found at Ace Hardware and out of 3 there is one that doesn't carry it. A 4oz tube was about 6 bucks.

Yep, Ace is the place! You don't have to wait for rust on your razors to use it. It cleans up razors very nicely and makes them sparkle. Just be aware that it takes gold wash off as well as etching.

I feel so girlie admitting this, but the one place I found MAAS near me was at Bed Bath & Beyond. Oh god. Did I really just post this?

P.S. A nice long bath in WD-40 (your razor, not you, unless you're into that) before you rinse, dry and apply the MAAS goes a long way.
