Thanked: 25Bison Horn Scales
I have some black Bison horn. I was able to split it, boil it and flatten it enough to make a pair of scale blanks. I have been trying to flatten the cleaned up blanks enough to match them but they keep springing back. Any body try this before?

I am using two blocks of wood and a vice for a press. It seams like the horn is easier to straighten in circumference than lengthwise. Do you have any hints as to boiling time, pressing or should I try the oven?

Thanked: 13249Steam, one of those Irons that does the shots of steam are a godsend for straightening warped natural scales, so I bet it will work on making the Horn scales in the first place.... You might also try steaming them on a screen of some type over the pot of boiling water...
