Thanked: 2Cleaning a tarnished blade -- Cape Cod polish
I have a Torrey razor [5/8 blade, no model name or number, with barber notch] and the blade has a lot of tarnish on it. It's quite heavy in some areas, not so heavy in others, but the blade generally has a dark appearacne overall without any rust or pitted spots. I've had really good results cleaning blades with Maas in the past, but this one just doesn't seem to want to come clean. The Maas is doing its job -- when I wipe it off, it's black. But I'm wondering if there is another product out there that I could use to move the process along a little faster? What about Cape Cod polish? Thanks.

Thanked: 2I went ahead and got some of the Cape Cod Polishing Cloths this afternoon, and they do seem to be more abraisive than the Maas. Maybe the cloths themselves have some abraisive effect?
It's interesting that the blade on my razor seems to polish up in the sense that it's shiny, but the darkness is still there. It's like the color of the blade itself might be somewhat dark. Perhaps it's water staining? After polishing, the blade has a nice slippery smooth feel. The Cape Cod cloths worked nicely on the scales as well, which I think are plastic.

Thanked: 2I was wondering about that myself, but I don't think so unless it's really worn off.
