I just want to say, don't sweat it too much. We've all done things in real life and online we regret. One of the things I really like about SRP and the people involved, is it's a very diverse group of people. We have different backgrounds, differing opinions and many walks of life here. But for the most part we get along, which is rare in this day and age. Sometimes it take a little work to get along, but it's worth it. So IMHO, I think you should come out of lurk mode anytime you want. I did find this thread informative. Thanks

I accept your apology, I've been in a similar situation before. I just want to say is that due to different grit systems, the two variety packs are likely the same- as I own 3m emery paper and its ANSI, and 8k grit only exists in JIS. I could be wrong though. Don't sweat it.

She also said the only difference between the two papers is a resin is applied on top of the wet/dry to make it waterproof so the abrasive material (silicon carbide) doesn't disconnect from the adhesive on the sandpaper. Thus maintaining consistency during wet conditions.

As for the rouge, I got my shipment a few moments ago and noticed Rio Grande goofed. The goof was in my favor. The purchase was for the samples at 6½ oz. bars with 4 bars total. Rio Grande sent me 4, 16oz bars. I had a sneaky suspicion something was odd when the UPS tracker said the box weighed 4 lbs. The package should have been 2 lbs. or a tad less. Closer inspection of the invoice indicates it's merely a "Polishing Compound Kit" with no specification of sizes. Now I have the full size bars at half the price. More compound than I will ever need at this point.

I have been buying “stuff” for some time now I learned “It’s not meant for what they don’t say”… in other words if they explicitly say “wet/dry” then it’s wet or dry use, but if they don’t say “wet/dry” then you can assume it’s for dry use only.

Yes, most sales persons don’t have a clue about the product beyond what’s on the package label… but they know everything about credit cards... lolol
Emory paper is used mostly dry because the glue is very inexpensive, but is water soluble and the paper will fall apart when wet, so most of us “wet sand” razors with wet/dry Silicon Carbide sandpaper… it cuts faster than Emory.

16 oz bars for the price of 6 oz?… It seems you are of to a good start, post some pics of he polished razors so we all com celebrate your good fortune.

Truth be told… I began reading this thread when the dust had already cleared, and only understood what happened after Gssixgun’s post… we all get that way sometimes, it’s only human and no one will hold it against you… and don’t return to lurking, keep posting, as someone may benefit from your experience… Indeed I ordered some of that 3M polishing paper for a special project… so I owe you one for that link.

Before and After. 2 Pics each.
All 4 bars were used. A dremel bit, knife-edge, hard felt was used for the green cutting compound and green rouge.

The razor really does have a mirror shine but I'll be damned if I can take a good pic to show it.
