Default Vicegripping or bracing razor during clean ups

I know at some point, I'll have to clean up a rusty razor, and use either a fashioned hand tool or the dremel to sand the rust off, but since it's a delicate piece of metal, I wondered what you guys use to brace it; do you free hand it, meaning you just hold it with your hand, braced against something, or do you have some special vice grips you use to steady the blade? They'd have to be pretty small and unobtrusive.

How do you keep from getting your hands cut up as I could imagine while sanding at times, especially by hand, you'd be prone to some feedback and knocking different parts of your hand against the blade. Slip ups happen. How do you best avoid that happening?

    Thanks in advance.

I am in the early stages of building something similar to Bruno's set up.

Pick your self up a tool demagnetizer, (if you plan on doing this) since most likely the magnet will give your straight razor magnetic charge.

I've put grips on razors, but never the blade.
Around the pivot hole I've exerted major MAJOR force without breaking or bending anything.
    YMMV

Let me make a suggestion. If you go with the magnetic jig, it would be smart to invest in a demagnetizer as well. You can pick one up for a couple bucks on Amazon HERE.

From my understanding you don't want your blade to stay magnetized for honing as it will draw the removed steel to the edge of the blade and produce chipping.

Another light bulb moment! Hey, this place is full of them. I was showing a barber some of my razors the other day, wondering/complaining about not being able to get the metal off.

Gee, Mr. Obvious, I never put the two together.

I guess this'll move to the top of the requisition order.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

After reading the above post, I went to Harbor Freight a few minutes ago and picked a demagnetizer for $3.99 plus tax.

I have a magnetized jig. Also for safety I have a pair of Ansell Cut Protection Gloves with Kevlar that I picked up at....?.....Lowes, I think. About $16.00.
