Thanks everybody for the great ideas! I got most of it out with the wire wheel (did grind down some of the jimps though). I'll go at it with some of the red DOVO paste and some dental cord (similar to the toothpick idea). Anyway's thanks again for the input.

    Two words: Electric Toothbrush.

It's my favorite new cleaning tool. Get some old school original flavor crest/colgate and you will probably be fine. Very gentle and works for getting gunk out of the inside of the scales. Also can clean deep around the pivot without having to remove the pin.

Something like one of the Oral-B type spin brushes? Luckilly it's a 3 payday month so I'll have a little extra to play with this coming w.e. Have to look into picking one up when I'm at Bi-Mart. Need more toothpaste as well so I'll pick up a couple tubes. Thanks

I've got some super duper electric toothbrush that my mother, the dental hygenist, bought for me. It has a small round head that spins a little clockwise then a little counterclockwise, about a ba-zillion times a minute. Probably anything that is labelled as an electric toothbrush will do.
