Glad you mentioned that you don't like the scent of olives Bruno! You had me downstairs scratching on the block of olive wood I'm planning to use this weekend! Mine is a nice color, still has wax, but when I scratch it hard it simply smells like wood and olive oil. I'm afraid I can't help much there.

I also checked a few other types of wood out of curiosity to see if any had a strange odor under the wax and found that the Camphor Burl has a REALLY strong odor of, well, camphor! Wow that's strong! If I get a head cold this winter I'll bet a sliver of that on the pillow would work as well as a Vicks Vapo-rub! Wish I could remember why I got it. Anyway I hope you figure out if your olive is still good or not.

    Default Ebony

I bought a piece of ebony at House of Hardwoods in Culver City, It is sealed in wax also. When I told him I would resaw it he advised removing the wax and sawing it in half to let it stabilize as it was air dried. I have not got to the ebony as I have several woods resawn for scales now.
