Beautiful razor! I'd say clean it with soap and water and get her honed up! Use it for a while and then decide which you would like more, a polished blade or the etching. There's no getting the etching back once it's gone but you can always polish it up some day.
Good luck.“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

Thanked: 199Like Lynn said, a dremel and Maas might help, but it might wipe out your etching on the blade. Hard to tell how deep it is from the pictures.
I would just use a Q-tip and some Maas on the parts around the etching. You won't get it all out, but I would wanna save the etching on that, and to do that, I think you'll have to forget about getting a mirror finish on it.

I'd say leave it with it's battle scars and enjoy it.
The only way you're going to get that razor to look better is if you put it in my collection.

honed it, shaved with it, fell in love with it.
I have never, ever, shaved with such a fine razor. I didn't know you could get such a comfortable shave, seriously. I couldn't wait to share the news here
It's incredibly smooth, I feel like I shaved with a flippin katana or something lol, unbelievable. It's extremely hollow too, I usually dislike that, but this guy, wow, my new king, I highly doubt I'll find anything better than this. I barely felt I was shaving, and my chin area which is always hard, just fell off out of fear of that huge blade lol. The only places where I'm not BBS is where I forgot to shave
But just to make sure: IF I DO NOT POLISH IT FURTHER, will it rust fast, or is it OK to leave it like this in this respect (don't care about the look of the blade, it is always covered in soap anyway, but I want to preserve the etching)

Glad to hear that you just honed, polished, & shaved with it. Even happier that it was as good a shaver as it is a looker.
Personally I just run the blade under the straight hot water, towel dry, hit it with the strop about five passes & put it in my cup of razors that stays on the counter-top. If I get water into the pivot area, I dry things out with the hair dryer. No rust problems at all for me to date. If I take a razor out of rotation, I do oil the blade & pay extra attention to the pivot area.Last edited by ScottGoodman; 11-12-2009 at 06:52 AM. Reason: add info
