Restoring and etched blade
I have a Yankee Cutlery razor with "Electric Fine Razor" etched in the blade. I was curious as to how to restore the blade. It has quite a bit of staining and I don't want to sand too much and ruin the etch.

Long story short, to get a nice mirror finish you will probably lose the etching if it is shallow. Now if it is really carved deep in there like a few blades are you might be able to work it out, but otherwise you will just have to live with a plain blade or a patina. Your choice.
Hope that helps.

Is there any polishing compounds that can get the stains out without taking too much away?

That is a outside of my limited experience, so maybe Glen or Max or someone else that works razor magic will chime in.

Thanked: 13245As you might have read in several of those posts, "The Tumbler" is the best, period, bar none, for etching ... But the first question is.... The "etching, is it on the face of the blade or into the face of the blade... If it is on the blade there is nothing to save it... In the face of the blade can usually be saved...

Here is a picture of it. It is etched into it and not overlayed.

Most of that will buff out using a set of buffing mops I often do restoration on razors with very simmilar patina.
As for blackening this is a two sided sword as some can be removed and other time is will not shift.
I forgot to mention it takes the use if compounds on the mops and a dam bit of dexterity and skill to avoid busting the razor.Last edited by Thechef; 12-01-2009 at 07:21 PM.
