Thanked: 5Advice needed on my first restore!
Hey,
My first topic! Anyway I have a Wade and Butcher non XXL wedge on it's way and the scales are shot. Therefore I have decided to venture into restoration, I'm going to put ebony scales on with a maple spacer.
Now my first question is if you are re-pinning with brass rod, how do people pein the first side.
And secondly, I'm doing this completely by hand so any little tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks
James

Thanked: 13245There are a few different ways...
Check here in the Workshop Sticky for all kinds of Restore info

Personally I use a 4 inch bench vise but a drilled Vice, a Drilled Jewelers block or a set of vice grips will all work too....

If you use the wiki search function, I wrote out my process in an article about scale making without power tools.

Thanked: 2591I use drilled pliers, make sure the hole is smaller than 1/16", and chamfer with 1/8". A few taps with peening hammer will deform the rod enough to hold the washer from falling.

Thanked: 5That's all really good stuff, and the link to the "how to" has helped too.
I'll post before and after pictures when I'm finished!
