    Default Geneva cutlery

couple question here... i just got a razor in the original box and it looks pretty old. its say on the razor geneva cutlery pyramid brand. does anyone know about this brand? is it worth anything, when were they made, how much are they worth? etc. and what would be a good way to clean some minor rust off of the blade. its got very very little rust. and it looks like someone honed the edge of the blade slightly crooked but its almost non-noticeable.

    1. We don't do price appraisals.

    2. It is a well known and respected brand. I think there is one for sale in the classifieds right now actually.

    Where is the rust?

Side? Sandpaper, hell: Dremel if you're good with it.

Edge? Reset the bevel, Starting with a low grit to chew away at the edge till you hit good metal.

    Spine:
a: Small patch? Sandpaper or dremel, then reset the bevel as you did for edge rust to even the spine out (cause you just threw it out of whack).
b: most of the length? Same as edge, but get ready for a lot of honing... and expect to have a much.... umm... more aerodynamic... razor when you're finished.

If it's really just surface rust Im told XX steel wool (the finest) can take it out. That metal polish sold as wadding would probably work too. I have yet to find rust on a razor that steel wool can totally remove in any reasonable amount of time. But I'm sure it's out there.

My geneva is thusfar my favorite shaver. It's competing with a Puma, Filharm, Torrey, and about 10 others right now (as well as a 7 day set I made myself to keep at my folks house for holidays). They are very nice razors. Mine's a 2.5" blade which is probably a big part of my affection for it. I find it much more maneuverable than 3" ones.

A photo would be nice, or at the very least the model (The pyramid model will sometimes have a number stamped on the tang inside the pyramid), size (measured from edge to the back of the spine), point style (round or square), type of scales (plain or fancy).

Want to know what’s it worth?
If you have an eBay account then you may do an "advanced search" for Razor Geneva or Razor Genco or Razor Pyramid and select the “completed listings only” radio button.
In the results look for one that closely matches your razor and condition and you will have a “ball-park” value of your razor if you were to list it on eBay... Also the value may be different with a private sale.

Bear in mind there is a whole lot that determine the value of these vintage items including condition, brand, size, grind, finish, type of scales, original box, and most importantly how much “hype” the razor gets in the shaving collectors/users community etc. and each of those mean different things to each person at different times, this is why it is difficult to put a value on your razor in public forum. So it is a good idea to do some research.

    Hope this helps some.

    Default Geneva Pyramid

I have 3 Pyramids in shaving condition and would feel very confident testing them against much pricier competition. Having said that, they are plentiful and generally very plain...no one is likely to get rich reselling them. At some point I would love to rescale the ones I have, it's not fair that such nice steel should come with such ugly scales.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
