Thread: replacement pins

am about to start my first restore, and am wondering, can i purchace pre made replacement pins, or do i have to make them from scratch. any help is appreciated

You can get replacement pins and washers as a kit from Classic Shaving. These are the same pins used in Dovos, TI's, Wackers, et al.

You can get pre cut pins from some sites so you only have to peen one side.

You can get 1/16th rod and peen both sides yourself

you can get microfasteners and skip the peening.

Ideally you'd want to get some brass or nickel rod (1/16") and peen them yourself. It took me a while before I decided to give peening a shot and the Microfasteners worked great before that.

I use brass pins although they are a little thicker than normal at 1.5mm but must make sure they are pure brass and not the coated type.

I spent a lot of time looking both locally and on the web. I wanted NiAg pins.

They come in 12" lengths. At ~1/2" per pin, you can do a lot of razors with 2 or 3 pieces.

I settled on #0 stainless washers from MicroFasteners.

It is a bummer to pay more for shipping than for the products, but I finally swallowed hard and did it. Once you have the stuff "in stock" you can focus on your restorations.
