    Default New handle/scale

I plan to make a new handle for a razor I have. The celluloid scale is cracked. I have some Hickory wood I want to make the scales from. What is the best finishing material. i.e what should I use to protect the wood from water. Helmsman or something?

    Thank you,
    DBC.

While fantastic on sandwiches, I am not sure mayonaise is the best material for scales.

Just teasing. I am not the most experienced member here by any stretch of means, but that should work fine.

Depends on what you want them to look like in the end...

Superglue polishes up very nice but takes some work, some members have used epoxy, your helmsman varnish will work, even a good wax finish works.
it depends more on the look you are going after than anything else.

Muirtach, please! Varnish on a sandwhich? Polyurethane is so much tastier.

The OP initially said Helman's. And while I love to bring out the best, it is not quite ideal for finishing wood.
