Exclamation nicked my new razor - repair help!

I shaved with a straight razor for the first time today. Most of my save was excellent (as in, best I have ever had).

Unfortunately, I knocked my razor against the faucet while washing it during my shave.

I can now hold the razor up to light, and I see a definite chink in the blade.

    I have a Dovo 5/8ths razor. I am wondering:

    1. If I should continue to shave with the blade
    2. Whether I can repair the blade myself (I have the proper water stones, but I have never sharpened a knife before)
    3. Whether I should have my blade repaired professionally. I know that www.classicshaving.com has a repair service.

Any comments would be very welcome.

    Ned

is that your only razor? i'd send it to SRD and have the edge repaired by someone experienced.

WELCOME!!! It's too late to turn back now

If you've never sharpened a knife....you've got plenty of time to practice...but you want that thing to be repaired/sharpened ASAP by someone who knows how to do it.

If you've got the stones, I'd keep your first razor in shaving shape, and jump over to ebay and find an OLD cheapey to practice on. Too many newer ones that aren't worth owning. If you're mildly patience you can have one to your door for $20 bucks that will be a great for practicing on and, eventually, will be a good shaver.

Thats such a pain! We've all done it though, lesson learned!

If you have the stones you can hone it out yourself. You'll need to go back to the 1k and set a new bevel and take it from there most likely..!

If not, you'll need to send it to a honemeister to do the business. Check SRD and the classifieds for services.

Just an FYI, I'd take down your personal email address lest the spammers get hold of it and you get bombarded with emails asking for help in securing funds from the son of a deposed african dictator or some such..!

    Default Thanks!

    Thanks for all the advice!

I'll get a cheap on to practice on, and send this one to get repaired.

    What does SRD stand for?

    Feedback is great!

Just contact one of the moderators if the edit button is not there.
