    Default Razor Grinding?

I have a couple of eBay specials that have pretty uneven wear. I've read in some places that these can be re-ground so that they are actually straight like they're supposed to be. Anyone have a suggestion as to how that can be accomplished? I have a grinding wheel that I can use but I'm not sure of the proper technique or is this actually the best way?

    Looking for any input...

    Thanks

using power I can't help you, but what I've done is lay the razor flat on a fairly aggressive stone and, alternating sides, hone in a circular motion for what seems like 27 years or so. Well, a long friggin time anyway. Use only one hand, and grip the tang. If you use your off hand to keep the toe down on the stone, you will likely add to the problem. That seems to work. Power scares me near these blades, with them being so thin already.

Without some experience and the right grinding wheels, grinding down a razor on a grinder could very easily ruin it. The grinding wheels can chip or shatter the blades and the thin steel heats up so quickly from grinding that you could ruin the temper.

The safest way is to "file" them back into proper geometry with a diamond hone. If you simply try to hone the razor back into proper geometry, it will, as already mentioned, seem like a 27 year project. Once the blades are filed back to proper geometry, then the honing can start to re-establish the bevel and then bring it back to a fine cutting edge.

Actually Ross Cutlery in LA, California is the place to have a razor reground. These guys have been at it for over 40 years and the cost is around $22 per razor. They have the right equipment and are good people. Lynn
