    Default Worth restoring?

Quick question. Say you have a razor that you're interested in restoring, but there is a small 1/32" long crack running from the edge towards the spine. The crack is located about 3/4" away from the toe. As is, the blade is 5/8" - 11/16". This is also good Solingen steel and a quarter grind. Do you send it for a restore or not?

Without a pic it is hard to tell, but a crack in a wedge makes me wonder if there is a more serious problem.

well, not really a wedge, more like quarter grind? if i were to send this off and get that crack taken out, what would the 5/8" become (typically, of course)?

what other potential problems could there be?

1/32 is peanuts. that's 0.7938 mm. You could easily hone that out first, then inspect your edge, condition and decide if you still want it restored. I don't see 1/32 as a big issue. Unless there's other hidden traps. Now if you were talking about an 1/8 inch crack...

+1 for Max, the only issue I can foresee is what you dont see, hopefully that crack does not extend into the metal beyond what is visible.

can't get it. too small. imagine a 1/32" crack (1/2 of the length of the 1/16" ticks on a standard US ruler) about 3/4" from the toe of your favorite quarter grind razor.

edit: a tiny bit over half the edge thickness of a dime.
