    Default Micro Fasteners for Pinning

I know this has been put out there before... I just want to make sure someone else doesn't make the same mistake I did and order the shorter bolts... I was busy and only read half the thread... then off to work and didn't read the part that said... order this length instead... The 0-80 bolts come in 1/2 and 3/4.. They are easily cut and will have to be cut no matter what size you use.. If you run into a particularly thick blade or scales.. or ... if you want to add some fancy washers from a bead store... you'll need the 3/4 length.. The washers come in two sizes regular and wide.. I think the wide covers up more of any potential scratches you may make trying to remove the pins...

Here are the item numbers for ordering from Micro Fasteners

    Hex head bolt, Brass 0-80 x 1/2 HBB0008 - 100 - 7.60
    Hex head bolt, Brass 0-80 x 3/4 HBB0012 - 100 - 8.70

    Hex Nut, Brass 0-80 HNBS0080 - 50 - 9.90

    Flat Washer Brass #0 regular FWB0 - 100 - 3.80
    wide FWBW0 - 100 - 4.40

    Wrench for 0-80 size WRO 1 - 4.40
you may want two of these

Phone number 1-800-892-6917... they ship same day... and are very nice on the phone... you'll get a catalog with your first order..

    hope this helps someone

    Have Fun!!

    Default Thanks

I am making my first set of custom scales and decided on fasteners because of their adjustablility. Great shopping list - I ordered everything.

Thanks for posting that up. I first found micro fasteners at a jewelry shop, and man, what an ordeal it was trying to get what I needed. Since then, I just order online, but having that list will certainly spare someone the trouble I went through.

regardless of whether or not you are going to use them for your permanent pin job, I ALWAYS use these suckers for my scales while I'm fitting things up prior to pinning. I'll say that after using both, I greatly prefer pinning, but I always test fit with these guys.

I'd suggest them to anyone getting into restoration at all

Do you use the 3/4 or 1/2 ones for your pre pin check?

Problem is you must use washers on wood on all sides with these little guys, and secondly loctite must be added or they start to unscrew over time.

Always go with the longer screw, you can always shorten it if you plan on using them as permanent. I always use the longer screws for my trial fitting as well & I think they are 3/4" long. The 1/2" are just too short for working with IMO.
