Preserving Etching on Boker Edelweiss
Hi Group,
I bought an old Boker Edelweiss today at an antique store to practice restoration. The scales literally crumbled, so it looks like new scales as well, but for $15.00, I thought it was a good deal. The blade seems in very good condition.
The blade has Edelweiss etched on it with some geometric shapes around it. The background around the etching is slightly dull grey, but there was some light blemishing on it that needs to be cleaned. When you clean it some of the etch background is removed. Is there a way to restore the etching background, or do you just clean and buff and not worry about the etching background?
Thanks in advance.
David

To restore the frosting you'd have to mask off all the shiny bits etc... maybe with nail polish & then apply some mild oxidising agent or blue to the area you want to revive. If it's an intricate pattern you have a helluva job ahead.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
