Thanked: 0Alan
I was in an antique store recently and purchased an old straight edge razor. It is manufactured by the Cleff Co. How would I research the quality and value of this razor?
Thanks

I don't know how you would do it, but I'd research the quality of that razor by comparing it to the quality of other razors by shaving with it or by comparing reviews of other razors with myr own review of that one.
And I'd research the value of that razor by comparing it to values of other razors in markets such as eBay.
I hope this helps you!

I would start with the Wiki here on the forum. Below is an entry for a Cleff razor:

Thanked: 1936Goins' summary:
Vom Cleff & Co., NY Germany 1885-1926
Company was next door to Boker, importer of English & German cutlery. In 1918 they purchased the factory of Summit Cutlery Company in NJ where they mainly made safety razors & safety razor blades. In 1926 company was sold to K.C. Seelbach Company.
Most of us here would judge the quality of a SR simply to how it shaves & holds an edge. Value is also quite relative to what I just listed and literally what someone is willing to give for something. This would be directly related to condition, wear, scales, you get my point. If I have to "restore" a SR, my typical top is $10-15, after that I have to have a reason to really want it. The further I get into restoration (i.e. the more SR's I get), I find that I am getting more and more picky.
BTW, pics say much more about a SR, post some, these guys on here are almost as sharp as their straights....Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott
