My first set of scales / restore in progress...
This is my first set of self-made scales, and my first real restore in progress...
The scales are a two-piece wedgeless design. They're made from bamboo, sanded up to 1500 grit and lightly oiled.
I'm still not confident in my peening ability, so I used adjustable pins for now.
The blade is looking much better than when I started, but I think I'm going to do a little more polishing on it before I call it done.
The first pic is what I started with, the rest are where I'm at....
Comments and critiques are appreciated.

I would love to see some more scales done in bamboo. It's the one type of timber that I can get in abundance and know exactly what it is.

Oooh, those are pretty! Great first set. And the bamboo looks really unique, very simple and elegant -simple was not meant to be derogatory-

these are really nice looking scales. i'm particularly into chinese art and culture and i really love the way they look. bamboo really works with the metal. i don't think they need excessive finishing. great work and inspiring for me to do some restoration in the distant future. cheers!

I've been thinking about bamboo myself, nice job on the wedgeless scales. You should try your hand at pinning, just a little patience & following the instructions in the wiki is all you have to do & it leaves your scales even cleaner looking.

Those scales look great, I like how you did the wedge. Bamboo is
an amazing material.
