    Default Blade with Markings

I bought a W&B off ebay the other day and am ready to start cleaning it up. It does have writings on the blade itself. Am I limited to using MAAS plus a pad on my drimel or what? Will the writing come off?

I have only cleaned up blades that were plane so far. Don't want to mess up the writing.

It depends what kind of writing it is. Is it gold leaf or wash or is it engraved into the metal. I have some razors with engraved writing, some with gold wash over the engraving and some with just a gold plate period and some with an enamel.

The answer is if its engraved you can dremmel to your hearts content and it won't harm it. (of course if you really go to town on it you can wear it down) If its gold it will come off. Heck if its gold just normal use will cause it to eventually wear off and if its enamel paint it will wear but slower. I've found for those pretty razors with colorful writing I've used Simichrome, similar to MAAS but you can't rub too much. Any abrasive will take it off so its a matter of how shiny do you want to make it as opposed to how much of the pretty stuff do you want to remove.
