Default How to polish the wedge?????

I have a set of cocobolo scales that i have finished sanding down to my liking and im going to use a clear epoxy resin for the clearcoat. My question is with the wedge. I dont know if i should use a urethane on that seperate or if i have to use something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should try the epoxy on a scrape piece of cocobolo first before applying to the scales. The wood is very oily and it may effect the epoxy curing. I know it does effect urethane. What is the wedge made of? How you finish it depends on the look you are trying to achieve and if you want the wedge to be flush to the scales when finished. Take a good luck at the wedges of the restores in the gallery and determine what appearance you like and what you may want to avoid.

You may want to try pinning some scrap wood together with a wedge to simulate the process to use on the finished scales. It may save you some time in the long run.

    Good luck.

Thats a good idea. I know the epoxy adds about 1/16" to the thickness of the scales so i wanted to make sure that they weren't going to stick out in comparison to the wedge. As far as the wood, i was going to wipe it down with a little turpentine to get rid of the dust and some oil but i dont know if it affects the natural oilyness of the wood. I'll definately try it on some scrap first to make sure im not wasting my time. Thanks alot.

Oh and i was goin to try pine for the wedge but im not sure if thats the way i should go.
