While I am tapping (20-30) I rotate the nail set and the pins are domed. Some take more, some take less. Sure helps with the finished look...

This technique works great !!!!!

BUT note what Shooter said "20-30 taps", if you don't take your time like he pointed out, you WILL crack a scale because the nail sets concentrate the force....

The general use would be for making your flat washers domed. The nail set idea also mentioned is for smoothing out the actual pin

Thank you for humoring me Muirtach. I was wondering how people got those great looking domed washers. Here is another question. Where is a likely place to find those washers?

Yep, been there and done that as well as bent a pin. Re-pinning just takes a little patience...
