That blade is amazing. Looks nice and heavy. Oh, if you shave of a bit of the tip of the talon it won't look so much like a parrot
Awesome scales. Great work!

Oh, yeah sorry... No these are some type of wood (I believe madrone) with dye injected into the root system or something. Maybe Bob can enlighten us as to the specifics. However, it's a stabilized wood that takes a fantastic finish (as you can see) without as much effort as you might think.
There are many different colors that Bob showed me. Really stunning stuff!
Sorry for the confusion

No problem mate. My question was misleading.
That wood looks just amazing. I really like the texture. I'll have to get me a piece of that...

Jim, Glad you like the razor. The scales are stabilized madrone burl. It is grown in western U.S. Dye is injected into the root system like Paul said. It comes in all different colors and can be found at texasknifemakerssupply.com. It is primarily for knife scales but sometimes I can find a six incher so I snag it up for razor scales. The talon is from a piece of black linen micatra. The finish is 9 layers of CA.
I was really shooting for the dragon's foot, but when I got done I said"damn, it looks like a parrot too!" Go figure.
We had great fun making the razors. Jim and Paul are great guys and great students. After 2 days my wife was wanting to adopt them. I had to put the nix on that one. But they are welcome back any time and I am looking forward to our next project.
