Default How do I tighten the pins

I've got a couple of older razors and the pivot pin has become loose enough that the blade freely swings. Is there a way to tighten the pins and if so, what sort of tools do I need?

I use a tiny (think it is a 1 oz) hammer for peening the pins. It was bought at a dollar store, so it's not a huge investment.

Since you are new to this use a table spoon, otherwise you can damage the scales.

Put the back of the pin on an anvil or any solid metal surface and hit with the table spoon (or LIGHTLY with a tiny hammer) on the front side of the pin. Be patient. It may seem like you are not doing much but after many dozens of light hits the pins will start to tighten.

You are causing the pins to flatten outward and hence shorten. You don't want to hit hard because that will bend the pins instead.

You should consider getting Bill Ellis' razor restoration CD. It is all in there and more.
