Thanked: 5You are a true gentleman, sir! Thanks for letting me have it!
Rest assured it has gone to a place where it will be loved and used every day.
Thanks for the input guys. I like the idea of a bright orange scales with a blue or purple wedge. If I decide to go the "non-wood" route I think I will go with that.
I liked the leopardwood that was posted, but I feel like its too busy. I want the style of the scales to define the razoras a whole, and I feel that if I used a busy wood like that it would take away from that concept.
If I can manage to draft some ideas up Ill post them and take a vote! I want to do this blade justice, and since this will be my first restoration I want input to make sure I don't ruin this 180 year old piece of history.

My two favorite woods for "classy" are Ebony and Claro Walnut (in the picture)
Other than that, check out olive wood scales Glen has been doing (others too), really sweet IMHO

Thanked: 5It would be nice to use those scales, but the fact is that I highly doubt that they are original anyways. Unless they were the ones that the thing came with back in 1830, I would rather not have scales that I find ugly.
Also, assuming that I like the shave (and Im sure I will) I can envision this being my daily use shaver. As such I want it to be personalized and unique, and something that I created for myself. It just seems to easy to use the old ones.
Keep the ideas coming guys! I drew up some sketches today in French class instead of paying attention, so if I can get them scanned I will post them up here for your comments.

Thanked: 5sketch 1
Hey guys here is the first idea:
It is pretty much a straight rip off of that Bloody Death razor that was posted on here a while ago. It is rough though, so dimensions will vary as will some of the proportions.
What I like about this design is how the spine of the razor is parralleled by the scales up to the tang which is covered. I think the line here runs well with the hump of the tang itself. Most of my designs have this idea incorperated in it, since I also like the way it compliments the barbers notch.
I do think that the toe one of the scales are a bit unsightly for the look im going for. It screams a little bit toooo much.

Thanked: 5colour rendering
Final post for now I think:
Took a few minutes to bang out a computer rendering of how this thing could look with orange scales, assuming that I used the fourth sketch I posted.
Once again, this will all depend on the dimensions and scale of the blade etc. but I just like playing around with designing things, so I wanted to take a look. The end result will obviously be way different.
