    I've tried Evapo-Rust and even the Mercedes-Benz of rust conversion, Renaissance De-Corroder. No dice on that stuff. Although I did use RDC last night to remove active red rust from a badly rusted blade surface. I was even able to preserve some of the gold wash underneath. Good thing it wasn't a Messerschmidt

    Pictures would be very helpful.

    There are some crystalline structures that can be exposed by polishing that are not all bad and can speak volumes about the heat treatment of the steels.
