Thanked: 13Cracking Blade
Recently I purchased a new Dovo str8 and have been using it to shave customers for about 2 months now. Last week I noticed hairline cracks in every direction on both the front and back of the blade. They were very shallow cracks resembling a spyder web and seemed to be on the finish of the blade.
I stopped using it and contacted the retail seller who said they would talk to the manufacturer. They called back a couple days later and told me they were sending me out a new one and to return the one with the cracks. When asked what caused the cracks they didn't really know and said they never heard of this before.
In 20+ years of using str8s I have never seen this before. I never dropped them or left them in water or subjected them to extreme heat or cold. I just used them as I regularly use all my str8s.
Does anyone know what could have caused this?
Thanks

Just to be clear, there were no hairline cracks you noticed when you received the razor in new condition. They suddenly appeared within 2 months?

I suspect gremlins
you have to remember not to feed them after midnight!
Jokes aside, sounds like a mystery to me... if there weren't crack when you got it this would be very strange indeed

Thanked: 13Max, when I first received the razor I visually checked it over as I do all my razors and it seemed to be fine. I then rubbed my thumb over both sides of the blade and noticed it was a little bumpy but didnt think much of it. After using it daily for about 2 months I started to notice the cracking.
Jimmy might be right in that could it be corrosion?
Thanks

I saw another thread describing a similar issue. Someone referred to it as spider corrosion or something to that effect. It had something to do with micro corrosion setting into the pours of the steel. I don't know if thats any help, or if that was just a myth.
