Very much like a wash coat except it is a two part epoxy. I went through both of those links and really appreciate your work both in the razors and in creating the threads to help others out. Great job with both. I also enoyed you idea with the double sided tape and a box and will most likely "borrow" that idea from here on out. Thanks again.
BTW..... That Tuckmar really turned out handsome with those scales.....BravoLast edited by TheRedlines; 03-14-2010 at 01:53 AM.

Ok....so I've got an update. I woke up this morning after allowing the scales to dry overnight again. The varnish had an odd appearance. Almost a flat sheen in spots and glossy in others. So I threw in the towell on that idea and ran down to lowes and picked up the minwax oil based clear satin wipe-on poly. I've now sanded off all of the other finish as well as reshaped a bit and changed my choice of wedge and have 3 coats of the poly on the inside of the scales. Let me just say, this stuff totally rocks! I've always loved the look of just oiling wood and let the wood's characteristics shine for themselves. I also knew for any kind of adequate protection I needed more than just a simple coat of oil. This stuff looks just as if I simply oiled it. It's perfect! A million thanks Glen for helping me past this roadblock of mine and thanks to everyone else for your ideas as well. I'm still going to pick up a cheap cake carrier for when I decide to tackle tougher finishes in the future as well as bring them inside to do.
