Thanked: 1936What these guys said, especially wd-40 add as a cleaning agent & then using a . One other thing that I noticed to happen to me & a set of custom scales I was making. I was about to put the final "tightening" to the wedge end of a razor while opening and closing the razor. A shift of the scales laterally affected the tension of the blade in the scales & centering of the blade. The squeezing of the scales could have done this. I actually now use this to my advantage to assist in getting a blade to center with new scales.

n00b question...
What are the scales made from? if its some sort of wood, and perhaps the varnish as work off could they be swelling with the water?

Not wood, probably plastic scales.
shooter's description fits what may have happened here.
Due to the stiffness of the pin, as I recall, I struggled to close the blade and unintentionally gave the scales a squeeze. It's quite possibly the cause.
I've got to say, some of the tips given are very welcome.
Loving the floss.
As it stands the WD-40 seems to be holding up well and doing the trick.
Many thanks to all. Regards,
David.
