Thanked: 235I found a local source of bone blanks for making scales
My sister is in town and I have been showing her around Bangkok. Today we visited a Tiger zoo in a near by province called Chon Buri. While I was in the gift shop I saw some carved buffalo horn. I was thinking that if I bought it I would want to cut it up into scale blanks. It was then that these caught my eye. They are two book marks made from buffalo horn which are in the perfect shape for making scales. The middle one is a timber book mark. I have no idea what type of wood it is.
The horn book marks are about 170mm by 30mm by 2mm
and the timber book mark is about 195mm by 43mm by 2mm

Good find!
Hopefully you'll be able to get some great scales from these! It would be really cool to have a set of scales and keep the owl on them as well. Are the blanks the right size to do that?
