Thanked: 144 "new" Bartmann
hi,
i was able to buy 4 nos bartmann on Ebay for €70 2 of them are good, only some black spotting but 2 of them have a fine powdery coat of rust...If i clean it with some metal polish the etching goes away as well so are there any other tricks one could use to restore the most beautifull razors in my book...

Great price seeing that two out of the 4 are real clean. The others may have cell rot ? Hope not. Bartmanns are great shavers IME.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Congrats on a great score. Nice razors! Unfortunately most anything you use to remove the rust will remove the gold wash also. You can scrape around the gold wash with a disposable razor blade (single edge) and then some soap and water with a wash cloth or sponge. Be sure to stabilize the rust with some sort of oil like mineral oil or Tuf Glide. If it's just a fine power try the soap and water first.
Good luck!“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

does anybody has more info about Bartmann? i can't seem to find anything except that they're now made by Wacker but i don't know if they bought the name or not...
and the funny thing about this buy is that i had mailed the seller to tell him that i wanted to buy the 3 razors with the bartmann box for 150 euro's..he never reacted so i decided to follow up on ebay...i had more luck thereLast edited by atzerath; 03-26-2010 at 10:46 PM.

You've been verrrry lucky I didn't spot those on the bay !!
I have one myself and paid way too much for it ....
Except for gently washing with some soap I don't see a solution for the rust. Otherwise you're most likely to lose the gold wash (I lost the gold wash on mine).

yeah careful with the ones with 'powdery rust', celluloid rot may be what's caused it.
