    Default Well, Poo...

It looks like Crucible may be out of business, so CPM154CM may be a thing of the past. It was my favorite stainless steel to work with because it had a wonderful combination of edge holding, finishing, and machining qualities, and it was a particle steel, so its grain structure was finer than most stainless steels (took a finer edge). I'll find out tomorrow, if my salesman is still around, but the rumors are that Crucible is out of business, which puts the kibosh on CPM154CM.

They filed for bankruptcy last year. As far as I know, they're still producing.

I'm glad to hear it. I won't know for sure until I talk to my salesman, but most of the regular sources were showing out of stock. I happen to love CPM154CM, and hope I can still buy it.

I know for sure that you can still get CPM 154 (it's one of my favorite steels, too).

It may be time to purchase as much of the steel as you can find if you think it will not be available in the near future. There's probably a stock of it somewhere.

In my Tool and Die days I used CPM 10V and really liked the results for knife blades if film choppers. It held an edge really well and resisted wear from the abrasive films very well. Good luck with your hunt for as much stock as you can afford.
