    Cool wrong saw?

    I just bought a jig saw from harbor freight to cut scales and Im new at this did I just buy the wrong kind of saw? should I have gotten a ban saw.

    depends what you wish to do with it
    for shaping scales its really good
    for splitting ticker pieces of wood its pretty much useless

    If you are trying to resaw block of wood to 1/8 slabs, it is not the best choice but will if you use the correct blade and have adequate clearance for the size of stock you want to resaw.Cutting the scales from thin stock, it will work good. Bandsaw will not cut as tight as a scroll saw, but it will cut much larger wood. I cut my scales on the bandsaw. Then again, the band saw takes a chunk of space in the garage and cost $1500 verses a few hundred for a good scroll saw that will sit on a workbench.
