    Default Blade Cleaning

Well, I think I'm ready to move a bit beyond the maintenance of my edges and try some minor restoration. I'll be starting by cleaning up some of my nastier looking ebay buys that I haven't gotten around to yet. My first question is about cleaning them. How do I use MAAS? Is it just a matter of applying some and gently rubbing with a fine steel wool? I also have a question about tumblers. I've seen references to them on the forums but have no idea what they are. Would they be used for cleaning a blade, and if so, how? Thanks in advance for your replies.

    leadduck,

My experience in this area is limited, but I think the rule of thumb with respect to blade cleaning/restoration is use the least abrasive method first. If using MAAS, for example, use a cloth first. If that doesn't work then move to next available method. I think that may be very fine grit sandpaper and water.

There are other SRP members more knowledgable about this than me who I am certain will chime in at some point.

    Good luck...

I have had surprising success on some pretty nasty looking Ebay razors with Maas and just a soft cotton cloth. I'll defer to somebody with more experience on the tumbler question.
