DD Razor pins question
Hopefully someone can answer my question. I recently acquired a DD wonderedge and it seems the pins are way lose. I will put pictures at the end of this to show. What I would like to know is: should I just use the tiny ball-peen hammer to tighten them up or have the pins replaced as they look to me like the pin at the top is being pulled into the scale and cutting it. I care more about function than form I want to use this razor for a long time to come.

It looks like the pin may be missing a washer and needs to be replaced, BTW I was Army grunt 77-84.

Flight Medic now but first 14 years I was Infantry Medic. Take a look from the side it looks like the washer is being pulled down into the scale.

Scroll down about half way and see if this works out for you: Blade Centering - Straight Razor Place Wiki
If that doesn't work, you'll have one of two choices...be careful when you're closing your razor, or have new scales fabbed up with the inlays transferred over.

Welcome to the world of flimsy and crappy DD scales. It's not uncommon for the DD's cracked ice scales to be extremely prone to warping or being fragile at the pivot hole. Looking at your picture I can see a tiny crack. Chances are the scale(s) will crack at the pivot hole when trying to peen to tighten. The same danger lurks if not careful when trying to remove the pin/washer. My personal preference in such a case when they need to be replaced and I have some play between the scales is to use a jewelers saw.

From your pictures it looks like the pivot pin has already been replaced. If not it has been mashed pretty bad already. Compare the pivot pin to the spacer pin and you'll see what I mean. At this point replacing the pin will not detract any value over it's current condition. Maybe see if someone can replace the pin with original washers saved from previous restores.
Good luck!
Oh yea, the scales may need to be straightened also. I have had success straightening the scales w/o removing the pins si it shouldn't be an issue with a pin removed.“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)
