Thanked: 0Cleaning Imitation Ivory
Hi, I have a razor that I have put back in service and the plastic handle seems to need some cleaning.
I think the darkness is from the razor sitting in it;s leather case for the past 5 years unused.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanked: 0I think you are right, the oils in the leather have migrated to the scales. I think that the staining is in, not on the scales. You will have to remove material to get rid of the stains. I dont recomend this. I say that the staining is the charactor and history of this razor, but if it really bothers you, then I ask this question.
Does the razor have any heirloom or sentimental value. If the answer is yes, dont do anything except clean and use the razor. If the answer is no, you might try some rouge on a buffing wheel (go slow and stop frequently so as not to melt the plastic) or you might try your hand at making or purchasing and installing some new scales. New scales are available from classicshaving.com and are made by DOVO.
Either way I suggest you first purchase the straight razor restoration cd from www.billysblades.com or www.classicshaving.com. Study the cd and several other posts or blogs on this forum.
Good luck,
Gary
