Default Cleaning Rust from back side of the blade

I'm looking for a way to clean and polish in between the scales, on the blade.

Any suggestions? it's a black gunk that needs to be cleaned I'm thinking it's oxidization? or a black rust.
    Thanks

What is it you're trying to achieve? Clean between the scales or clean the blade?

    Dental floss or butchers twine.

There's the little bit of rust where the back edge of the blade is between the scales, that needs to be removed. The blade is clean nearly has a mirror polish, but the metal that is where the pins is has rust but the scales block access with sand paper, I'd rather not remove the scales to be able to rust.

Use the above mentioned with your favorite metal polish.

You can also fill the gaps with some Maas and use a toothbrush to gently brush away whatever crap comes loose.

If I'm understanding you right, you can use a q tip and metal polish. You can crush the q tip some to get it flatter it it doesn't fit.
