    Default DE "straight razor"

Don't really know what to call these contraptions since, as far as I know(which is not a lot on the subject), shavette is an actual brand. I was also uncertain as which forum was the most fitting, but this is where I ended up.
This is the type of item I'm referring to.

edit: Found another picture that shows the item better
It seems that the weakest part of the construction is the bar that clamps down to secure the parts.

My plan was to have a custom handle made for one as a present for my brother.
But since I have no first hand knowledge of these types of "razors" I have no idea if the metal part of the construction is flimsy or not. I'm hoping someone here knows.

If it is I'm wondering if anyone here apt at working with metal could tell me how reasonable it would be to copy the construction, but in a more sturdy way, compared to making a straight razor (ultimately I realise that I would have to deliberate with the person who is going to actually make the item as he is the only one who can really tell, but any guesses are appreciated).
