    Default Gentlemen's Best scales?

    Anybody use a set yet?

Since I live in an apartment, I don't have the availability to make my own and have in the past used either the TI or Dovo replacements and liked them, but I want to increase the amount of work and personalization on my replacement scales without having to buy an entire garage of power equipment.

Second question: How easy is it to hand sand recon stone? They have some nice recon stone wedges as an upgrade, but don't want to buy power tools in order to shape the darned thing.

I don't know about the scales, but I would think recon stone would sand well if you apply the sandpaper to a hard surface. Hand sanding resin next to a softer material like wood would cause it to abrade at a different rate.

Wanted to say thanks for you bringing up the question about gentlemensbest.com.

I hadn't used them before and when I read your question, I decided to see what they had.

I was looking around for some glitter acrylic without having to get many square yards of it. I did not order a sanded kit, so can not say how that would be.

What I did get worked out very well. The two halves were firmly glued together with a latex type adhesive. They were evenly rough cut and stayed together well during my sanding and shaping. When I was ready to separate them, it was clean and easy.

If you were to need them, it also came with a few pieces of brass rod for pins and plenty of washers.

I didn't use it, but the kit also came with a square approx 1x1x1/8 block of black acrylic that could be used as end spacer. I suppose you could spend some time to make it a wedge, but that'd be a tedious. Don't know if the finished kits come with a wedge or the flat acrylic.

I was happy with the speed of delivery and material. It was an easy way to get nice material, without having a reserve of unused acrylic that I may or may not use.

I put further info in the workshop regarding the build and more pics, if wanted.
