Need advice on assembling horn scales
Hi,
I have some new scales made in genuine horn.
All I need is drilling the holes and make the pins to assemble the razor.
My question is: Is it necessary to use some kind of glue in the wedge between the two halves of the handles or the pin is usually enough to prevent the wedge to rotate aroung the pin.
The horn is slightly translucent which would show the glue if this was used to fix everything together.
I suppose if I pin it tightly enough, the wedge would be too "stuck" to be able to rotate freely.
I hope I was clear describing my problem.

Thanked: 1072Personally I never use glue. I peen the wedge pin until its a nice firm fit, and thats it. I have never had any problems with the wedge rotating so far.

No glue here either. Just one word of advise when tapping. Depending the quality or kind of horn you have, be careful when tapping cause to hard and to long can crack, tear or release a layer of air around the hole you are trying to peen. I definitely encounter this issue with the more translucent horn like the blond ox horn. Also make sure the washer lays 100% flat on the scale when peening. Handle your horn with care and you'll be fine.
