Thread: Blade Centering

I was putting an old Bengall back together today and realised I was dealing with a slightly bent tang which resulted in the blade wanting to hit the scales down near the wedge. We have talked about this before, (here for example http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...have-done.html ) but today I tried something new.
I recently read a quote from Bill Ellis who mentioned you could remove a tiny piece of the scale material at the pivot pin hole to alter the way the washers sit. So thats what I did and it worked. I'm talking about a tiny bit of material, just rubbed with some 240 grit for a few seconds, thats all it took.
Seems like a good, fairly safe solution to me. It may not always work but I would try this before sticking a blade in a vice again, and scales can be replaced much easier than a blade.
Hope you can understand what I'm saying from my crude drawings, I dont have any drawing software (that I know how to use anyway).

I usually use a diamond bit and a dremel for that kind of work. The bit is exactly the size of the washer so it wits in the modified scale perfectly well.

Thanks for the info....I have that problem Every stinkng time I try to make my own scales...It drives me bannanas!

I do that on Friodurs when they are totally bent. Works like a charm.
