    Default Microscope advice?

    Hi,
Can you recommend me a microscope that is not too heavy for shipment?
    Thanks.

Off-topic, but DealExtreme have an enormous range of products that all ship free world-wide.
Most of they're stuff is total crap, but there are some absolute gems mixed in amongst the rubbish.
Jet Cigarette lighters and garlic peelers are two that spring to minds for about two dollars each.
Also, I've had one of the monoscopes mentioned above for several years. Build-quality is preety cheap-and-nasty for a scientific instrument, but for a few bucks it's an excellent tool value-wise. Mines still going strong after some very poor treatment.
    Well worth a look.

This is the microscope I used while learning to hone...

    Radio Shack Illuminated Mini Microscope
    Illuminated Microscope - RadioShack.com
    catalog# 63-1313
    $12
2 AAA batteries, and magnifies 60x to 100x.

    It worked well.

I never used the light. I used a 100 watt incandescent light bulb in a goose neck lamp. That was much better than the microscope light.
