I've used Helmsman Marine Varnish with great results.

Works great for tabletops as well, really holds up if you build up 4-5 coats & block sand to take out the brush marks...

Marine Varnish really provides a great result as qualities of a finish speak to it's resistance against all the elements on its outer surface, its preparation creates the adherence durability.
