    Default Corroding Lead Wedges

    Hey gents,

A friend of mine just acquired an old 7 day set with lead wedges in them. They are corroding and he is wondering what others do to address this.

    Chemical treatment? New wedges?

    Thanks in advance.

Is it turning white? Moisture can turn lead into powdery white lead oxide after some time, helped by fumes from wood acids. If it is just surface deep then sanding may bring bright lead back. Tell him that lead oxide is more dangerous than lead - it is absorbed through the skin more easily than metallic lead and there is a danger of breathing it in if he doesn't wear a suitable respirator while sanding. I think we all know the toxic nature of lead and lead poisoning, so I won't elaborate on that.

    Regards,
    Neil
