Thanked: 5Can Anything Be Done
I am new to the world of restoration and just bought this Wade and Butcher off ebay for a really good price. Upon getting it I noticed the crack in the blade.... Is this one just for display now or can something be done to save it?
... and if for display should I take the time to polish or is it better off the way it is?
thanks for the help.

Thanked: 1262If they did not disclose the crack in the auction, I would try to get a refund.

Thanked: 3795I absolutely agree. This is something that HAS to be disclosed. Get your money back. I've had to do this several times and had to argue it each time, but the reality is that the blade is useless and they had no business not disclosing it. IF they did disclose it, then it's on you.

+ 5 on the above advice. The blade is not only useless it could be dangerous.

There are other things that can be done but I believe the most important thing to do is get your money back.

Thanked: 13249Let's assume you don't get the money back, the razor is pretty much useless except if Modded out...
It will scratch up a strop and sharpening it would be an effort in futility because you couldn't test the edge after you were done..
What does that mean???
Let me show you some links
http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...ade-thing.html
http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...microtome.html
The problem is that the razor you have is pretty well worn so unless you have the means and ability to do this type of work yourself the cost would be way more then the worth of the razor...
But yes the heel could be ground into a rather fashionable shoulderless contour which could take the crack out tooLast edited by gssixgun; 09-26-2010 at 12:14 AM.

Thanked: 13249Look at the heels, see the way we both re-contoured them?? also called Modding or Modifying
Again, I would not recommend spending the money have this done on that W&B....Last edited by gssixgun; 09-26-2010 at 12:19 AM.

Thanked: 5OK so then it would not be wrong to try practice some other techniques with his razor if I can't get the money back.... or is this a good razor to try and learn to how to modd with... or am I running before I can walk.
