Default Ever not been able to tighten?

Had a razor yesterday. I pinned it till it was nice and snug (I like em firm for stroppin if i can get em that way)

When I picked it back up to hone it inside the house an hour or so latter it was lose between the scales. Now not lose, lose, it was still very functional, but not easy stropping kind of tight. The way I like it.
Now I swear I heard a voice in my head say 'leave it'
    Did i listen?
    No.

Now I had just gotten my first batch of Nickle silver rod. And this was my 2nd pinning with it. And I had gotten the pinning 99% perfect. I mean it looked unreal. Probably the best pinning id ever done. The but and pivot peaning looked identical, id used supper light tapes and then buffed it so there were no pean marks, just those beautifull round things iv seen all you guys taking pics of and posting on here (yeah thats right i figured out how you do it!) :P

Any who, took it back out to the garage and was less cautious with how much force I used. And no i didnt crack the scales. But i pushed through till it was firm, and kept opening it right up as I always do and closing to make sure it centers and check firmness etc.
And once it was fairly firm, i jiggled and jiggled with it and it just progressively loosened on the spot. Left it for 1/2 hour and back to the way it was. Now to think of it, that is the way it was before I re pinned it.
    Original scales. Added thrust washers....

Any who now the pivot pin pean is much bigger than the other and it erks me. Well it did that day but looking at it this morning it doesnt look all that bad. After all, it is a rubish blad in rubish scales (pitting, scratches etc. Just a razor that will hopefully shave well and be a good learner for someone)

    So any one experienced this?

As I said I have done another one with the Nickle silver and it is still nice and snug so its not the pin material.

    Weird a?

Is it wooden scales that need time to set?
Are you sure the pin didnt bend this time?

    Plastic scales

Bent pin would not cause it to become 'more' lose would it? I mean if it bends, it shortens in length no?

    Thanks for the thoughts.

If the pin is too long, it can create what I call a Z bend (It isn't really a Z) it gives the pin a spring type action, it needs to be popped and you need to start over... File the pin so that there is barely 1mm left before you start the peen, that should fix the problem... What you are describing with the tighten then loosen sounds like this...

Now if the peen is just too large and your not getting anywhere you can try filling and peening and filing and peening it can work out OK from that...

    Good luck

thanks for the reply glen, but I dont think its either. I had very minimal XS when I started peening, and It has been tight, continued peening, as you do to make sure its firm, and it lessens as it sits there.

Maybe the Z thing, but once again, no XS rod on commencing peening, and only very light taps as always. Real weird.

Its all fun and games, like trying to diagnose a sick patient you cant see, look at or listen too

I had a TI that just would not tighten up, so I sent it to Max to see what he could do.

Nicely enough, he phoned (I had sent other razors also). The problem with the TI was the shank was angled more sharply than usual. Many times the shank is flat or has a moderate angle.

Max installed washers on each side of the shank and it has been tight ever since.

Take a look at the shank angle. Maybe or maybe not, but worth a look.
