Thread: Finishing the inside of 1 piece scales?

I've been thinking about making some one piece scales out of some purpleheart I have in the garage, but I haven't quite figured out how to finish the inside of the scales.

I normally do CA with wood, and I don't think I would be able to use that finishing method with one piece scales.

I've got some wipe on poly, and will be getting some Renaissance Wax. Could I just apply one or the other of these to the inside of the scales?

hand sand the inside and then a light coat of CA is how i do it (its more for the sealing of the wood inn mmy case

its not the deep smooth finish that you would get on the outside but its a nice look

Wipe on poly should work fine on the insides. I'd do a few coats.

How do you apply it?

depending on how wide the slit
a thin stiff bit of Ti or scrap wood and put it in a plastic bag

dribble CA in the gap and then rub the plastic covered "stick" inthe gap to spread the CA out

you cant just keep rubbing tho as when the CA starts to harden it gets "sticky" and makes peaks that would then need sanded back off and redone
