Default Chris R Johnson & Co polish up

    Hi all,

Having been inspired to give some restoration a go and with minimal tools I have taken a $5 rusty, pitted straight and cleaned it up with some success.
The scales were in a dull and very scratched state. Should have taken before pics. Also wish I had a better camera.

I basically wet & dried the blade till my fingers gave up and sanded and polished the scales and re-pinned.

I did cut a block of cork to have a rounded end so as to sand the blade from spine to edge to get a ground appearance.

I've yet to hone and strop.

    Gary,

That looks really great. You did an excellent job. I wish I had the patience.

Well it's Mother's day here in NZ and it's raining. So I made my wife breakfast, went into town and got some extra brass rod for pinning etc..and started sanding, had a break, made my wife lunch and carried on sanding..and it's still raining..get the picture ?.
I've just finished honing and stropping and will try a shave soon with it. Oh it's starting trying to snow now..oh joy..winter is here..I'm gonna run a deep hot bath, add some lavender oil and relax. Then the hot towel, plenty of Trumpers coconut cream and a luxurious shave.

It's sounds like the weather in Christchurch is much like it was when I lived in Waiuku on the North Island, maybe I should have restoring razors to pass the time during the winter back then.

    Nice job on the razor!

    John
