    Default is this worth restoring?

This was my Dad's razor and I was going to clean it up and restore it. I don't know a whole lot about the history of it other than what is stamped on it. On one side it says "top flight 6" and on the other it says "US 1955 Burrell Cutlery Co." I am going the restore it I was just wondering how much time I should take and how careful I should be. Thanks.

Yes, it's worth restoring, particularly because of the family connection. If you have not restored a razor before, I suggest you buy another razor in comparable condition and restore that one first. You don't want to learn on, and make mistakes with, a razor that has sentimental value.

    Yes, it is worth it.

And you should take as much time and care as needed for it to be perfect. If this were my first try, and a family piece like this I would absolutely hand sand it (to be safe) until it looked perfect. OR I'd send it to a pro!

It looks like it has been worked on in the past,,,

Not positive, but those scales look like they are off a Hess #42

Heirlooms are always special and special care should be taken to bring them back...If you haven't done any razors I suggest setting that one aside until you have the skills developed or sending it out...

As the others have said above, it is worth it, but you should wait until you've practiced restoring other razors. There is a big learning curve on restorations (as with pretty much every aspect of straight shaving), so you would want to be skilled in restorations before attempting to restore something of sentimental value.

+1 to glen's comment, these are not original scales. doesn't mean it isn't worth restoring though!

EVERYONE else is lying. It is NOT worth restoring and you should send it to me ASAP just to keep it from cluttering up your home. PM me for mailing address........................................... ......

Okay, so they're telling the truth. I'd send a family piece with sentimental value to one of the pros here to get her where you can enjoy her. Dave
